Whereas the administration of Jordan’s Principle was transitioned to Indigenous Services Canada (ISC) BC Region in February 2019, the delivery of the service navigation function ended on March 31, 2021.
ISC BC Region has been working with First Nations partners to develop and implement a made-in-BC Jordan’s Principle Enhanced Service Coordination model of care that puts First Nations children and families at the centre of service delivery. This model includes two key components:
• 40 dedicated community-based Jordan’s Principle Service Coordinators who will work directly with Indigenous children and families to assist with the navigation of the whole range of federal and provincial services/supports (e.g., education, health, and social) and submitting Jordan’s Principle requests on their behalf
• a centralized BC Jordan’s Principle Service Coordination Hub to support service coordinators and provide information on Jordan’s Principle to families and guardians.
Hosted by the BC Aboriginal Child Care Society (BCACCS), the Service Coordination Hub is in the early phase of implementation and once up and running, will include a website that will provide up to date information on Jordan’s Principle, including contacts of local service providers.
ISC BC Region Jordan’s Principle staff are fully available to assist children and families with service coordination and submission of Jordan’s Principle requests. They can reached by telephone at 778-951-0716 or by email at sac.principedejordancb-bcjordansprinciple.isc@canada.ca.
