Part of the 2015-16 FNHA #WinterWellness Grant Initiative
In the New Year, First Nations members from the Nuchatlaht Tribe travelled to the Mount Cain Ski Resort on the North Island, to get active and interacte with other community members in a fun and social setting. Activities included snowboarding and skiing, which a few members had never tried before. For those daring, Snowshoeing was also an option, and everyone involved had a blast!
"This trip was fun! I got to go skiing for the first time!"
Participants included youth, adults, families and Elders. An event like this allowed the community to engage in a positive environment and was further enhanced by the staff at the Mount Cain resort. For those that didn’t have gear, Mount Cain resort provided it.
Although communication can be difficult over the holiday season, organizers were happy to have peace of mind knowing the event was coming up for their community members. Transportation to the resort was difficult with conditions quite dangerous but those who attended felt empowered by the day and the opportunities that were provided.
