Beyond the Mountains, a Holistic Approach to Health and Wellness.
Organized by FNHA’s Trish Howard and her CEC team, representatives from across the Northern Region had three packed days for networking, training, and keynote speeches. The first day’s cultural sharing included a drumming performance by the local Kastan Drumming Group, and the day finished with Maori, Tessa Karangawai Fraser (who was decorated with a traditional moko face tattoo), teaching six fearless volunteers how to do a Maori warrior chant.
Breakout sessions on day two focused on applying Indigenous Knowledge with facilitators from Saint Elizabeth’s in Winnipeg leading the session. With much laughter and many good stories, retired CHRs headed to the Civic Centre to spend the afternoon painting.
The highlight of the Gathering was an honouring ceremony for those who give so much in community. Every CHR in the room was recognized with a certificate, and the total years of service added up to a whopping 936 years!
Those who had more than 25 years of service were blanketed by Louella Nome and Mabel Louie, and also received a special certificate. Many had tears in their eyes, watching these dedicated CHRs get this long overdue recognition.
