The First Nations Health Authority (FNHA) is currently recruiting a Northern Regional Appointee Board member. The FNHA provides health and wellness programs and services to First Nations province-wide. The nine-member Board collectively works for and make decisions for the benefit of all First Nations in BC, regardless of residence; however, the Board is structured in a manner to make space for regional experience and perspective. The Board includes five Board members selected from nominations of First Nations in the five Regions (Fraser Salish, Interior, North, Vancouver Coastal, and Vancouver Island) and four Board members selected at large.

RESPONSIBILITIES
The key governance functions of the FNHA Board of Directors include:
- Approve the Society's strategic vision;
- Prepare a multi-year health plan, as required under the Framework Agreement;
- Approve and monitor the Society's financial/corporate and operational plans;
- Set and maintain organization and operational (health) performance goals for the Society;
- Provide for an objective evaluation of the performance of Directors;
- Monitor the effectiveness of the Society's governance practices; and
- Provide for merit-based evaluation of the Senior Manager.
COMPETENCIES
FNHA Board members require a broad range of skills and experience.
The competencies being sought and prioritized include:
- Excellent knowledge of IT systems and infrastructure; or
- Accounting and Finance - analyzing and interpreting financial statements, evaluating organizational budgets and understanding financial reporting; or
- Legal principles, processes and systems including health legislation;
- Extensive and proven experience in Labour and Human Resources; and
- A high degree of cultural competency and knowledge of First Nations in BC
Successful candidates must be a resident of BC and must complete a criminal record check.
A Regional Panel consisting of one Member representative from each Region will review applications based on Board qualifications and competencies, as well as, the Consensus Paper and Resolution of 2012-01. The Member Panel will then interview potential candidates and make a recommendation to the Members as a whole.
The following may not be appointed as a Director:
A FNHA Member;
A First Nations Official;
An elected federal, provincial or municipal official;
A First Nations Health Director;
- An employee of or contractor with the Society; or
Any person who has been in any of the categories (1) to (5) above for a minimum period of 6 months prior to their appointment.
