About the Program
The FNHA works with healthcare providers to deliver communicable disease programs in First Nations communities. We work to increase awareness and build capacity around communicable disease programs with education, training and resources. The FNHA also partners with regional health authorities to improve access to health services.
The Communicable Disease Control Team works to ensure that current practice and new developments in communicable disease control and population and public health prevention programs are delivered with a First Nations focus.

About Communicable Diseases
Communicable diseases are illnesses that are often spread from person to person, but can also be spread through food, water and animals. The health and wellness of First Nations communities can be strengthened through the prevention, treatment and management of communicable disease. For example, chicken pox can be prevented by getting a vaccine. Tuberculosis and Hepatitis C can be detected through screening, and can be treated or cured.
