The First Nations Health Authority (FNHA) is excited to introduce the 2024-25 Urban and Away-from-Home (UAH) Funding Initiative.
Grants of up to $25,000 are available to support the UAH population in areas of primary care, mental health and wellness, the toxic drug response, addressing anti-Indigenous racism and promoting cultural safety in health care.
Funding requests must be one time and can be used to support or supplement program funding. Consideration will be given to initiatives that have a direct impact on the UAH population; reach a broad range of First Nations people that live in an UAH setting; and improve the availability, quality and accessibility of health and wellness services for the UAH population.

Eligibility
We accept funding applications from First Nations communities in BC, urban Indigenous organizations supporting First Nations clients living UAH in BC, and First Nations educational institutions (schools/colleges). You can see the list of 2023-24 grant recipients here.
Please note that for-profit organizations, Métis Chartered communities, and organizations that are not run by First Nations are ineligible for funding.

About the UAH population
The majority of First Nations people in BC live in urban areas or away from home. However, mainstream health services are not always accessible due to systemic, institutional, clinical and individual barriers.
The UAH population includes status and non-status First Nations people in BC who live in:
- a city, urban, rural, remote or isolated area that is not in a First Nations community or on a reserve
- a reserve that is away from their home community
